Dear Wareham Families,
“Top of the morning”! Today is a day that many celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Even those who are not of Irish decent often proudly don green attire, prepare a boiled dinner and gather with family and friends. Cultural celebrations can indeed reach across communities and amongst ethnic groups.
Last night’s International Night was indeed, a testament to that. Minot Forest, once again, opened its doors to the community to honor world cultures and heritage. Wareham families, staff and the community volunteered to host tables representing dozens of countries, including Ireland, Italy, China, Japan, Morocco, Ecuador, Cabo Verde and much more. Table hosts arranged beautiful displays with information, artifacts, and foods from the countries they were highlighting.
There were games and activities for children and multicultural performances by dance and musical groups. Many local restaurants sponsored this event as well, by providing foods with an ethnic flair.
This event has been in Wareham for well over a decade, and it is one that is cherished in our community, for it brings people of different backgrounds together to celebrate and honor multiculturalism. Last night was a demonstration of global education at its finest, and my thanks go out to all those who participated in the planning and facilitating of this special tradition in our district.
