Diploma Program at WHS

The IB Diploma Programme at Wareham High School is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education that prepares students aged 16 to 19 for future success. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of all students. The programme is recognized and respected at leading colleges and universities around the world.

The Diploma Program prepares students for effective participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society as they:

  • develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically

  • acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, studying courses from six subject groups

  • develop the skills and a positive attitude towards learning that will prepare them for higher education

  • study at least two languages and increase understanding of cultures, including their own

  • make connections across traditional academic disciplines and

  • explore the nature of knowledge through the program’s unique theory of knowledge course

  • undertake in-depth research into an area of interest through the lens of one or more academic disciplines in the extended essay

  • enhance their personal and interpersonal development through creativity, action and service.

Diploma Program at WHS

At Wareham High School, students will have the option of enrolling in the full Diploma Program, or taking one or more selected courses for the IB Certificate.

To be enrolled in the full Diploma Program, students must select 3 Higher Level (HL) courses and 3 Standard Level (SL) courses. HL courses cover subjects in greater depth, while SL courses explore a range of topics within a given subject.

Students enrolled in the full Diploma Program must also complete the following Core requirements: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS), and Extended Essay (EE).
